Katie fell in love with makeup at an early age. She remembers watching her mom get ready and something she said was that she loved to get ready so she was prepared to help and serve others. Katie learned makeup by trying. She would look at magazines and just play around. The fun thing with makeup is that it washes off and you can just try again. There is no such thing as failure with makeup!
KATIES MAKEUP BASICS TO HELP YOU FEEL YOUR BEST
Five minutes can make a huge difference in your day. Makeup doesn’t have to take an hour or be super intense. Just because you are a mom doesn’t mean you need to give up your makeup routine. Katies basics are concealer and mascara and maybe tinted moisturizer for the super basics. But she says that in 5 minutes you can bust out a really great look once you get it down.
FEELING CONFIDENT WITH OR WITHOUT MAKEUP
Makeup now for Katie is just an enhancement and a fun way to express herself, but it took some time for her to get to that point. Over the past few years she has really worked to feel more confident without makeup. Makeup shouldn’t be the thing that validates you and makes you feel confident, but it can put a little pep in your step.
LEARN BY TRYING AND TEACHING
When you want to succeed or get better at anything, whether it’s makeup or anything else, follow and look up to people that truly help you to feel capable. But also put your blinders on to anything you might be comparing yourself to. Everything I have learned about makeup has been trial and error. I learned better by doing and I learned best by teaching.
MAKEUP TIPS AND CURRENT BEAUTY TRENDS
There are no right or wrong ways to do makeup. Makeup is fun, you do what is fun and what works for you. Whatever makes you feel like the best version of yourself, DO THAT! But here are some tips that Katie shared. Don’t try to recreate everything you see on Tik Tok and social media. A lot of those things are camera ready or for entertainment and not everyday life. One of the best and easiest things you can do is to “lift” everything. Apply your bronzer a little higher. When you go lower it can make everything look like it’s sinking and no one wants that!
FEELING GOOD ON THE INSIDE BY FILLING YOUR CUP
Katie tries to make time daily to do the things that fill her cup and makes her happy. Sticking to her habits keeps her happy. Working out, making time to listen to books and podcasts that she loves, just making time to enjoy the small things that bring her joy. Give yourself grace and time to fill up your happiness and joy cup that is seperate from work. Another way to fill your cup is to step away from social media and just actually live off the ‘gram.
ON DAYS WHEN KATIE ISN’T FEELING CONFIDENT
Pretend. Katie says it like this: Confidence brings success, which brings more confidence. It’s like a cycle. And you can’t really be successful in 5 seconds, but you can pump yourself up and “fake” or lean into confidence in 5 seconds and then a ripple effect starts to happen. So whether it’s putting on a power color with your makeup, or throwing on a outfit that makes you feel like a million bucks or even listening to a pump up song, just PRETEND you are confident and soon enough you really will be.
