It’s time for another live author interview! This interview is straight from my live monthly book club, this month we ready You’re Already Awesome by Alison Faulkner.

This interview was so much fun. We laugh (a lot), go through a quick impromptu meditation, and discover so much about how we are already enough and always awesome.

Let’s dive in!

  • 39:05 Do As a Red Flag

THE TAP METHOD

Alison shares a fun acronym (you know how I love me an acronym) T.A.P, which stands for Tune In, Accept, and then Pick Your Focus. She dives way deeper into this in the book, but essentially it’s a great tool for your emotions and for how you want to feel. Instead of tuning out, trying to escape, or ignore things, Alison invites us to tune in. Then to accept first what we are feeling, before trying to make a shift. Only after acceptance does she invites us to pick a focus. I love that!

YOU CAN’T DO IT WRONG

I loved this that Alison said, you can’t do it wrong.” Everything we do, is the right way because it’s the way we are doing it. We are going to learn things in the way that we needed to for our own unique purposes. And knowing that we truly can’t do anything wrong is so amazing!

IMPROMPTU MEDITATION WITH ALISON

During our live call, Alison decided that we learn best by experiencing and invited us all to close our eyes and tune in. Click the player above and head straight to this timestamp to listen to her guide us through this and experience it for yourself.

DO IS A RED FLAG

Alison says that the word “DO” can be looked at as a red flag for not feeling like we are already awesome or not doing enough. When we start to ask questions like what should I do, is when we can stop and notice that we don’t have to “do” anything. We are already enough, we are already awesome.

WHEN WE PRACTICE COMPASSION

When we work on this compassion for ourselves it becomes so much easier to give that compassion away to others including our loved ones.

CONTROL IS ROOTED IN FEAR AND LACK

Often times we want to control things (as moms especially I feel this, like on a super deep level). But that need for control is rooted in fear and lack and those are two emotions that are not high on my priority list of wanting to feel. Becoming aware of my need to control and when I sense myself needing to control more has been a good indicator of needing to T.A.P, tune in and see wha’s up, accept what’s up, and then pick what I actually really do want to focus on.

YOU’RE ALREADY AWESOME

Wow. This interview was awesome and I hope you feel just a little bit more awesome after listening today and that you really do believe that you don’t have to do anything to earn that awesome-ness. It’s already and has always been a part of you.
